Question: I am going to ask a girl out for a dinner, what should I do to make a good impression?
Michael P.
Answer: Plan your trip carefully - the choice of a restaurant, its clientele, its design, the food, the prices – everything is important. Do not feel embarrassed to tell your young lady if you will be going to a casual place. Choose the one you can afford and with a good reputation.
Tell your young lady where you are going beforehand. If you are planning a surprise, tell her at least what kind of place this is. It will be important for her to be prepared so that she can dress appropriately. She will want to choose the appropriate attire to feel comfortable in the restaurant, and she will be grateful to you for your courtesy in that. Do not forget to dress yourself in a suitable style.
If you are going to pick up your date, be on time. If she is a younger girl and lives with her parents, go inside and introduce yourself to her parents. Tell them the approximate time when you will return. And keep your word! That will make a good impression.
During dinner, be a thoughtful host and give her your full attention. (No texting and phone calls.) Mind your table manners. Do not drink if you are driving. Treat her like a Lady. Call her the next day and thank her for dining out with you. If you really want to impress her, write her a “thank you” note. Good luck!

Question: I always forget to return borrowed items. And when the people who loaned me the items remind me about them, I feel embarrassed. How can I remember about those items so I can return them on time?
N.L.
Answer: You can always make a note in your notebook or your phone immediately after borrowing the items. This will help you remember to return the item on time. If it doesn’t work for you, I suggest a special trick that I use a lot: do not put the borrowed items with your own similar belongings, such as the books on your permanent bookshelf. When you are finished using the borrowed item, put it on some special visible place in your home (a shelf or table), where you will see it and remember that you still have it.
If you would like to keep the borrowed item longer, call the owner and let him or her know that you are aware that it is time to return the item, and you would be happy to do that immediately, but wonder if it would be okay with them if you kept it a little longer -- and mention the reason why you would like the extra time. The person who loaned you the item would most likely be nice about it, because you did not forget.
Please, keep in mind that a warm thank you call, or even a thank you note and a small gift if you have kept the item very long, would be much appreciated and will open the possibility for future borrowing.
